I have three points to make to ensure you will be ready for this online class: 1. free textbook 2. mandatory free software 3. log in on day 1 1. I have great news… your e-textbook is free and is available in a wide variety of free online formats via https://openstaxcollege.org/textbooks/anatomy-and-physiology. You can use the book in whichever format(s) you want. (NOTE: the iBook version is not free, it costs a whopping $ 4.99). If you insist on a hardcopy, that is possible too at a significantly reduced textbook rate (ISBN 1-938168-13-5) via the CNM bookstore or www.openstaxcollege.org. 2. MANDATORY!! Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor software: This course REQUIRES the use of exam and assessment proctoring software. This means you must have access to a computer (not tablet, smart phone or chromebook), a secure and reliable internet connection, a webcam, and audio-recording hardware. When this software is enabled on an exam, assessment or test by your instructor, you will need to download the Respondus Lockdown Browser software as directed by your instructor. The link for Respondus Lockdown Browser for use at CNM is http://www.respondus.com/lockdown/information.pl?ID=916915865 You will also need to have a high-speed data connection (cable or DSL) to successfully complete the course. Your download speed should be at least 1.5 Mbps, and your upload speed should be at least 750 Kbps (0.7 Mbps). You must test your connection at http://speedof.me to ensure you have this speed. Without this speed, you will not be able to complete quizzes and exams. The Respondus Monitor software uses video to ensure the integrity of the testing environment. The video is stored in a secure, encrypted environment. Only your instructor has access to view the video. This software does NOT install any malware into your computer and is SSL certified and encrypted. For an overview of the Respondus software, please view this short video. Don’t forget to log into CNM Learn (Blackboard) on day 1 of the term (Monday, January 18, 2016). You can get to it easily via the CNM homepage (cnm.edu). If you do not log in on day 1, I’m afraid I will need to drop you on day 2 to give the many students on the wait list an opportunity to register for this online course.
