Learning Objectives: Preview of Math 0930 Online 1. This class is good for student who just need to brush up their algebra skills. If you have never taken algebra, sign up for a face-to-face class. If you have taken algebra before, but did not understand it, sign up for a face-to-face class. If you want to learn fractions, sign up for a Math 0750 class. 2. Make sure that you take all the tutorials offered on the CNM Distance Learning site: http://www.cnm.edu/depts/dl/index.php 3. Review the syllabus and course schedule on my website: http://home.comcast.net/~darryldomonkos/ 4. Check out my suggestions for "How to Pass an Online Math Class", which is found on my website. 5. Be sure that you are willing to READ all information and directions, carefully and completely. 6. You need to have good computer skills. 7. How disciplined are you? Can you motivate yourself to check into the Math class at least 3 times a week and to read the explanations in the textbook, review the section homework help in MML, practice the section notes, work out the textbook problems for each section and take the section quizzes more than once? 8. If you have the needed skills and are willing to put in the effort, this will be a rewarding class for you. "See" you (virtually) January 7th!
Required Materials: All graded online homework, section quizzes and chapter exams are located in Blackboard. A hard copy of the text book (Introductory Algebra for College Students - Math 0930 Algebraic Problem Solving I - Custom Edition for CNM by Robert Blitzer 2009 paperback) can be purchased or rented from the CNM book store or other sources. This CNM custom text book is the first four chapters from Introductory Algebra for College Students, 5th Edition by Robert Blitzer.
Technical Requirements: 1. It is highly recommended that the student have DLS or cable internet access. 2. Students must have an operating system equivalent to Windows XP and web browsing software. 3. Students may need to download free programs, such as Flash and Adobe Reader, to their computer in order to access internet and class material needed to complete this course. 4. Student must have the ability to download, upload, and open Microsoft Word documents. 5. Students must have an email account prior to the start of the term. Students should have an account through MyCNM. 6. Students must have the ability to copy, scan, email, and attach documents. If students do not have the necessary equipment, these processes can be done at some CNM computer labs or at local copy stores. 7. Students will access course material through Blackboard at CNM on the Distance Learning site.
